Conditional Sentences – If Clause चे संपूर्ण मार्गदर्शक | Notes

Conditional Sentences म्हणजे काय? Conditional Sentences म्हणजे अट दर्शवणारी वाक्ये. यात दोन भाग असतात: 1) If Clause – ज्यात अट असते, आणि 2) Main Clause – ज्यात परिणाम असतो. एका घटनेवर दुसरी घटना अवलंबून असते तेव्हा हे वापरतात.

का महत्वाचे आहे? MPSC च्या 2023, 2024 च्या पेपरमध्ये Conditional वर 3 प्रश्न आले होते. SSC CGL मध्ये तर दरवर्षी 2 प्रश्न Fix असतात. हा Topic 15 मिनिटात पक्का झाला तर 6 Marks सहज मिळतात. त्यामुळे संपूर्ण लक्ष देऊन वाचा.

1. Conditional Sentences ची ओळख आणि मूलभूत रचना

इंग्रजी व्याकरणात 'If' हे सर्वात जास्त वापरले जाणारे Conjunction आहे. 'If' चा अर्थ 'जर' असा होतो. पण फक्त 'If' नाही तर 'Unless, Until, As long as, Provided, Supposing, In case' हे शब्द पण Conditional अर्थाने वापरतात.

Basic Structure मूलभूत रचना:

If Clause + Comma + Main Clause OR Main Clause + If Clause

1. If you work hard, you will succeed. = You will succeed if you work hard.
जर तू मेहनत केलीस तर तू यशस्वी होशील.

Trick: जर 'If' ने वाक्य सुरू होत असेल तर Comma द्या. जर 'If' मधेच येत असेल तर Comma नको.

2. Type 0: Zero Conditional | शून्य प्रकारची अट | 100% सत्य

A) कधी वापरायचे? Usage:

• 1. वैज्ञानिक सत्य / Scientific Facts: If you boil water, it evaporates.
• 2. सामान्य सत्य / General Truths: If you don't eat, you get hungry.
• 3. नियम / Rules: If you are late, you get punishment.
• 4. सूचना / Instructions: If you press the button, the machine starts.

B) Structure रचना:

If + Present Simple, Present Simple
If + Sub + V1/V5, Sub + V1/V5

C) 50+ Examples Zero Conditional ची:

1. If you freeze water, it becomes ice. जर तुम्ही पाणी गोठवले तर त्याचा बर्फ होतो.
2. If babies are hungry, they cry. जर बाळे भुकेली असतील तर ती रडतात.
3. If you touch fire, you get burnt. जर तुम्ही आगीला स्पर्श केलात तर तुम्ही भाजता.
4. When the sun sets, it gets dark. जेव्हा सूर्य मावळतो तेव्हा अंधार होतो.
5. If public transport is efficient, people avoid cars. जर सार्वजनिक वाहतूक कार्यक्षम असेल तर लोक गाड्या टाळतात.
6. If you mix yellow and red, you get orange. पिवळा आणि लाल मिसळला तर केशरी होतो.
7. If metal gets hot, it expands. धातू गरम झाला की प्रसरण पावतो.
8. If you don't pay EMI, CIBIL score goes down. EMI भरली नाही तर CIBIL Score खाली जातो.
9. If you speak the truth, people trust you. खरे बोललात तर लोक विश्वास ठेवतात.
10. If there is no rain, crops die. पाऊस नसेल तर पिके मरतात.
11. If you add sugar to tea, it becomes sweet. चहात साखर टाकली तर तो गोड होतो.
12. If you cut an onion, you cry. कांदा कापला तर रडू येते.
13. If students cheat, they get caught. विद्यार्थ्यांनी कॉपी केली तर ते पकडले जातात.
14. If petrol prices rise, everything becomes costly. पेट्रोल महागले तर सगळे महाग होते.
15. If you respect elders, you get blessings. मोठ्यांचा आदर केला तर आशीर्वाद मिळतात.

Common Mistake: Zero Conditional मध्ये चुकून 'Will' वापरू नका. If you will heat water, it will boil. ❌ हे चुकीचे आहे. If you heat water, it boils. ✅ हे बरोबर आहे.

3. Type 1: First Conditional | पहिली अट | Real Future Possibility

A) कधी वापरायचे? Usage:

भविष्यात एखादी गोष्ट घडण्याची शक्यता 50% पेक्षा जास्त असेल, Real वाटत असेल तेव्हा First Conditional वापरतो. Promise, Warning, Threat साठी पण वापरतात.

B) Structure रचना:

If + Present Simple, Will + V1
If + Sub + V1/V5, Sub + will/shall/can/may/must + V1

Variations प्रकार:

• Unless = If...not: Unless you hurry, you will miss the train. जर तू घाई केली नाहीस तर तुझी ट्रेन चुकले.
• Imperative: If you see him, tell him to call me. जर तो दिसला तर मला फोन करायला सांग.
• Should for advice: If you should need help, call me. जर तुला मदत लागलीच तर मला फोन कर.

C) 50+ Examples First Conditional ची:

1. If it rains, we will cancel the picnic. पाऊस पडला तर आपण सहल रद्द करू.
2. If you study now, you will pass MPSC 2026. आता अभ्यास केलास तर MPSC 2026 पास होशील.
3. If SBI does not stop EMI, I will file RBI complaint. SBI ने EMI थांबवला नाही तर मी RBI तक्रार करेन.
4. If you call me, I will pick up. तू फोन केलास तर मी उचलेन.
5. If he works hard, he may get promotion. त्याने मेहनत केली तर त्याला प्रमोशन मिळू शकेल.
6. Unless the bank replies by 4th July, I will escalate. 4 जुलैपर्यंत बँकेने उत्तर दिले नाही तर मी प्रकरण वर नेईन.
7. If you don't sleep now, you will feel tired tomorrow. आता झोपला नाहीस तर उद्या दमशील.
8. If I get a job, I will repay all loans. मला नोकरी मिळाली तर मी सर्व कर्जे फेडीन.
9. If you help me, I shall be grateful. तू मदत केलीस तर मी आभारी राहीन.
10. Take medicine if you have a headache. डोके दुखत असेल तर औषध घे.

4. Type 2: Second Conditional | दुसरी अट | Unreal Present/Future

A) कधी वापरायचे? Usage:

1. अशक्य स्वप्ने: If I were a bird... 2. सल्ला देणे: If I were you... 3. काल्पनिक परिस्थिती: If I won a lottery... वर्तमानात शक्यता 0% असते.

B) Structure रचना:

If + Past Simple, Would + V1
If + Sub + V2, Sub + would/could/might + V1

Golden Rule: Second Conditional मध्ये 'I/he/she/it' सोबत 'was' न वापरता 'were' वापरा. If I were, If he were हे Formal English आहे. Exam मध्ये हेच येतं.

C) 50+ Examples Second Conditional ची:

1. If I were the Prime Minister, I would give jobs to all. मी पंतप्रधान असतो तर सर्वांना नोकऱ्या दिल्या असत्या.
2. If I had a car, I would travel to Leh Ladakh. माझ्याकडे गाडी असती तर मी लेह लडाखला गेलो असतो.
3. If I were you, I would not take that loan. मी तुझ्या जागी असतो तर ते कर्ज घेतले नसते.
4. If she knew the truth, she would be angry. तिला सत्य माहित असते तर ती रागावली असती.
5. If SBI were customer-friendly, my problem would be solved. SBI ग्राहकाभिमुख असती तर माझी समस्या सुटली असती.
6. If I could fly, I would not need a passport. मला उडता येत असते तर पासपोर्टची गरज नसती.
7. If we lived in Mumbai, life would be expensive. आपण मुंबईत राहिलो असतो तर जीवन महाग असते.

5. Type 3: Third Conditional | तिसरी अट | Past Regret

A) कधी वापरायचे? Usage:

भूतकाळात काही वेगळे घडले असते तर परिणाम वेगळा झाला असता. पण आता काही करू शकत नाही. 100% Imaginary Past. पश्चाताप, टीका यासाठी वापरतात.

B) Structure रचना:

If + Past Perfect, Would have + V3
If + Sub + had + V3, Sub + would/could/might + have + V3

C) 50+ Examples Third Conditional ची:

1. If I had studied, I would have become an IAS officer. मी अभ्यास केला असता तर IAS झालो असतो.
2. If SBI had told me about restructuring, I would have applied earlier. SBI ने पुनर्रचनेबद्दल सांगितले असते तर मी आधीच अर्ज केला असता.
3. If you had woken up early, you would not have missed the bus. तू लवकर उठला असतास तर बस चुकली नसती.
4. If it had not rained, we would have played cricket. पाऊस पडला नसता तर आपण क्रिकेट खेळलो असतो.
5. If I had known about job loss, I would not have taken loan. नोकरी जाणार हे माहित असते तर कर्ज घेतले नसते.
6. If the doctor had come on time, he could have saved her. डॉक्टर वेळेवर आला असता तर तिला वाचवू शकला असता.

6. Mixed Conditionals | मिश्र अटी | Advance Level

जेव्हा If Clause चा काळ आणि Main Clause चा काळ वेगळा असतो. MPSC Mains, UPSC साठी महत्वाचे.

Type A: Past Condition → Present Result

If + Past Perfect, Would + V1

If I had taken that job in 2020, I would be a manager now. 2020 मध्ये नोकरी घेतली असती तर आता मॅनेजर असतो.

Type B: Present Condition → Past Result

If + Past Simple, Would have + V3

If I were rich, I would have bought that house last year. मी श्रीमंत असतो तर गेल्या वर्षी ते घर विकत घेतले असते.

7. Other Conditional Words | If शिवाय इतर शब्द

Word	Meaning	Example
Unless	जर...नाही तर	Unless you pay, you will not get it. पैसे दिले नाहीस तर मिळणार नाही.
As long as	जोपर्यंत	As long as you work, you will earn. जोपर्यंत काम करशील तोपर्यंत कमावशील.
Provided/Providing	अट आहे की	I will help provided you tell truth. खरे सांगशील या अटीवर मदत करेन.
In case	जर कदाचित	Take umbrella in case it rains. पाऊस आला तर छत्री घे.
Supposing	समजा	Supposing you fail, what will you do? समजा नापास झालास तर काय करशील?

Final Revision Tips: 1. Zero = Universal Truth, दोन्हीकडे Present. 2. First = Real Future, If+Present, Will+V1. 3. Second = Unreal Present, If+Past, Would+V1. 4. Third = Unreal Past, If+Past Perfect, Would have+V3. 5. 'Were' सर्वांसाठी Second Conditional मध्ये. 6. If Clause मध्ये Will/Would वापरू नका. रोज 20 वाक्ये लिहा.
